Mimi and Dustin shared a groovy day at Evergreen Lake House this August. This fun funky couple celebrated their special day embracing the 70's!
Along with baby blue, yellow, orange and brown decorations, their tables were ordained with false mustaches for their guests. The desserts too embraced Mimi and Dustin's love for lighthearted fun. Their delectable red velvet cutting cake, covered in baby blue fondant, was adorned with 3-D mustaches and topped with a fondant replica of a "Here Comes the Sun" vinyl record! To finish off the dessert table we made an assortment of banana, white, chocolate, and red velvet cupcakes each of which was topped with it's own retro 'stash.
Thanks for such a memorable arrangement!
Peace, Love, and Sweet Lives!

Meet the Bakers...

Jene

Q: If you were a treat, what would you be and why?
A: Snickerdoodle. Mostly I just enjoy the word itself. Though, I am a lover of both snickering and doodling.

Q: You just had your last meal on earth. If you could pick anything, what dessert would follow?
A: Tiramisu.

Q: What's the most interesting request you've received from costumers?
A: I once decorated a cake to look like the character Bonafet's (from Star Wars) helmet. When I finished, a man picked up the "helmet" to put on his head... not knowing it was a cake. It's probably not necessary to say it didn't end well.

Q: What is your first baking memory?
A: (With much giggling) The door fell off of my family's oven when I was eight years old and my father didn't have it replaced until I was twenty-two.

With more giggling, she pondered if that was the reason she decorates cakes as opposed to baking them.

Diana
Q: If you were a treat, what would you be and why?
A: A rice krispy treat. Because I snap, crackle, and pop.

Q: What baking project are you most proud of?
A: Making Dessert for Mayor Hickenlooper.

Q: You just had your last meal on earth. If you could pick anything, what dessert would follow?
A: Rocky road ice-cream.

Q: What is your earliest baking memory?
A: When I was very young I used to always want to bake with my mom whenever she was baking. (Again, with laughter)Listening to directions and following my mom's orders weren't quite as important to me at the time.

Erika
Q: If you were a treat, what would you be and why?
A: A fruit pie because I am pretty sure that the girls in the kitchen think I am crusty at times while still coming across saucy and bubbly at other times.

Q: You just had your last meal on earth. If you could pick anything, what dessert would follow?
A: Pecan Pie. It is my favorite and I really only eat it on Thanksgiving and the morning after with coffee (that is the best).

Q: What is your earliest baking memory?
A: When I was a little girl I always wanted to bake when my mom was so she would pull down the dishwasher door so I could use the flat surface as my own table. Thanks for being so patient Mom... I think I learned a bit about baking.

Q: What baking project are you most proud of?
A: Having the opportunity to open my own shoppe and celebrating it's first birthday.

Happy Birthday, Living the Sweet Life!

Adorable Tasting Events!

Brides, Grooms, and all those who get excited about gorgeous weddings....

Checkout these photos from our latest tasting events hosted here at the shoppe!

We love to be creative and give brides a new spin on the traditional wedding cakes...

Did you know... during the middle ages guests would bring small bridal cakes to the wedding celebration; each cake was stacked on one another and piled high for the bride and groom.  The couple would then kiss over the stack of towering cakes in order to bring them good luck in their marriage!

How wedding cake traditions have changed!

Pairing at the Wine Cellar

We here at Living the Sweet Life are excited to let you in on our latest pairing. We have joined forces with The Wine Cellar!  Located on the west corner of 15th street and Boulder street the Wine Cellar opened their doors earlier this month and features a wide selection of reasonably priced wines, a few beers, and delicious meets, cheeses, and desserts to accompany your drink of choice. The knowledgeable staff make choosing the right wine for you a sinch!

We have been working with the staff at the Wine Cellar to provide the perfect tantalizing treats to enhance your experience.  Right now the desserts you'll find there are our creamy dark chocolate mousse, mini fruit tarts filled with rich pastry cream, and extra bittersweet chocolate and pistachio biscotti.  Perfect choices to pair with your red or white wine!

So come get some delicious specialty treats while sharing a glass at the newest wine spot in Lo-Hi!

Break me off a piece of that candy bar!

Most everyone has a special place in their hearts for that special candy that sucks you in every time you see it.  Last month we had a blast putting together a retro candy bar for a tasting event here at the shop.  For our retro theme we got old fashioned pulled lollipops in swirling pink, white and yellow.  To add a little glitz we got white crystal rock candy and for the gentlemen we added some candy cigars!  Gum balls and select gummy candies also gave an easy nibbling option.

The best part about the candy bar is that it's a fun way to incorporate not only your favorite candies but also wedding colors and themes.  Together we can put together rainbows of color or use our candy connections to find the perfect treats to play into your special day.
